RISHM's Newport Black History Walking Tour Featured in Boston Globe

Launched this past weekend on June 15th at Newport, Rhode Island’s 2nd annual Juneteenth celebration in honor of as much, our Newport Black History Walking Tour has been featured in The Boston Globe!

The tour explores several locations throughout the city of Newport which tell the hitherto overlooked story of slavery in the Ocean State and the legacy and history of Newport’s Black community, both of which have played a significant role in shaping the city and state’s character.

Stops along the Walking Tour include the homes of former slaves, such as the William Ellery Channing/ Duchess Quamino House, Newport’s iconic Trinity Church and Newport’s famous Bowen’s Wharf, where slaves were originally brought into the city.
