Patriot’s Park

Patriot’s Park has long been celebrated as a location of African-American participation in the American War of Independence. Over one hundred twenty African-American and Native-American troops, both slaves purchased by the Rhode Island Assembly, and freemen, fought in the Battle of Rhode Island in 1778 in the 1st Rhode Island Regiment.
